Hello;
thanks for stopping in. My name is John Marcy, and I play the cello in the Naples
Philharmonic Orchestra (that's Naples in
southwest Florida, not the lesser-known Naples in southwest Italy) (map).I was born in Douai, France and grew up in South Bend, Indiana (map), just down the road from the University of Notre Dame. During the summer my family often traveled to Aix-en-Provence, my father's home town.
I am an alumnus of Oberlin College (Oberlin, Ohio) (map) and of the Eastman School of Music (a division of the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York) (map).
While at Oberlin I spent a semester abroad at
the University of Córdoba (Spain).
I am a member of the Universal Esperanto Association, the Esperanto League for North America, and the Florida Esperanto League. Esperanto is an international language invented over 100 years ago. It is not intended to supplant national languages but rather to serve as a means of communication between people who do not speak the same national language. Esperanto is completely regular and very easy to learn. A free course in the language is available.
