Aquatic man Aquatic Programs

Y SKIPPERS

(5 yrs & under and Parents)
An educational program which includes basic water safety and swimming skills.

Under 3 yrs - water adjustment
3-5 yrs - water adjustment & beginning swim skills

The Under 3 group must be accompanied by a parent(s) or an adult at all times for the safety and comfort of each child. This program allows children to learn with others at their own level.

Shrimp (6-8 months)
Kippers (9-12 months)
Innia (13-18 months)
Perch (19-36 months)

3-5 year olds are grouped by skill:

Pike (beginning skills)
Eel (intermediate skills)
Rays (advanced skills)
Starfish (creative skills)

Skippers stresses enjoyment, pre-learning activities, development of confidence and safety, use of PFD's, diving safety, water and boating safety, and non-swimming rescues for backyard pools and open water areas.

PROGRESSIVE YOUTH LESSONS

Children, 6-15 yrs. are placed according to present ability in one of the following skill levels:

Polliwog Designed for the non-swimmer, this class introduces basic swimming and safety skills. The survival float is taught.
Guppy Rotary breathing and front crawl are the main focus. Should swim at least 20 feet without assistance before entering this level.
Minnow Introduces the back crawl and stresses increased endurance and refinement of the front crawl. Should be able to swim 20 yards with rotary breathing before entering this level.
Fish Introduces the butterfly and breaststroke. Stresses increased endurance in front and back crawl.
Flying Fish/Shark Refinement of butterfly and breaststroke, with an emphasis on endurance. Some lifesaving techniques are taught.

ADULT SWIM LESSONS

For the swimmer and non-swimmer, focusing on water adjustment and swimming skills.

Cancellations due to weather will be reimbursed with a credit letter for future aquatic programs at the end of the session. Class cancellation due to low enrollment will be issued a credit letter or a refund.

WATER FITNESS CLASS

Promotes cardiovascular fitness in the comfort of our heated pool. Develop total fitness without muscle soreness. You don't have to know how to swim to participate! Fee includes all classes.

SCUBA CLASSES

(15 yrs & over)

Must swim 200 yds above water, 25 ft under water and float 10 min. Learn theory, skills and techniques for the safe use of self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. Classes end with an open-water dive in the Florida Keys. Call 597-3148 for more information.

AQUATIC CAMP

(ages 11-15 yrs) Introduces sailing, snorkeling, aquatic nature and more! Our bus leaves daily for a fun-filled aquatic adventure at local beaches and parks. A swim test ( is required. For more information, call the Aquatic Director at the Y.

COMPETITIVE SWIM CLASS

An opportunity for young or new swimmers (ages 8-18 years) to learn about competitive swimming before joining the team.
CCY Piranha coaches focus on stroke technique, starts, turns, finishes, understanding training terminology and how to read the pace clock.
Must swim two strokes 25 yards each to enroll. Introductory swim meet offered.

Maximum enrollment is 10.

COMPETITIVE SWIM CAMPS

Enroll in a week-long camp to develop and learn the finer techniques of competitive swimming. You will learn activities that are helpful in swimming and other sports. For all ages.

MASTERS SWIMMING

For adults (ages 1 9 years & over) of all ability levels, from former high school or college competitors to once-a-week lap swimmers. Includes a different workout each day. T&TH 6:00-7:3Opm

CCY PIRANHA SWIM TEAM
(ages 5- College)

Professional coaching and full YMCA support guide the CCY Piranhas. Emphasizes values through competition. Open to those who know how to swim and want to improve their swimming skills, speed and endurance. The YMCA Swim Team offers training for a variety of levels; beginners to National Championship competitors. The Swim Team motto is "The Magic is in the Mind."

NOVICE
(ages 5-14)

Includes all swimmers just beginning on the Swim Team. Must be able to swim 25 yards of two different strokes. Teaches the four Olympic stroke skills, reading a pace clock and swim team terminology. Swimmers compete in developmental and YMCA meets.

JUNIOR
(ages 8-14)

Must be able to swim an Individual Medley (the four strokes together) efficiently. This level teaches advanced stroke skills, turns, racing starts, and finishes.

Swimmers begin to compete at advanced meets in this training group. Team spirit and cooperation are stressed. Qualifying swim required.

SENIOR
(ages 11 - College)

For advanced swimmers, who are highly motivated and expect to qualify for YMCA Nationals within two years. Swimmers compete at local, regional and national levels. Practice includes mental training and dry land exercises, in addition to swim practice. Qualifying swim required.

REGISTRATION

To register for competitive teams, contact Janet Schneider at 597-3148, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm or call for an appointment. Parents must register children under the age of 1 9. A copy of the swimmer's birth certificate and Social Security number is needed to register. There is an optional annual $30/swimmer U.S.S. registration fee.

FEES

Team fees are paid through two different plans.

PLAN      I -
The monthly plan is paid through a bank draft program in which your account is automatically drafted each month. A 30-day written notice is required to cancel the bank draft.

PLAN     II -
The seasonal plan is the amount for the summer season and is due on or before the first day you practice. If you begin in May, the fee is 4 times the monthly charge. If you begin in June, it is 3 times.
