Hebrew & Religious School

Shalom!  As we move into the hustle and bustle of season and get swept up in the fast pace of schedules and activities, we often need to be reminded of those people who bring the calm back into our lives.  It is with great gratitude that I introduce you to four teachers of long-standing and dedicated service to our children at Temple Shalom:

Batina Houghtaling, formerly Batina Cooke, has been teaching Kindergarten in our Sunday school for the past 16 years. She was educated at Purdue University where she studied Child Development.  Batina has three children: her son, Jostin (20) is attending Florida Gulf Coast University, and stepsons, Alex (14) attends Corkscrew Middle School in the 8th grade and Adam (20) is the lighting engineer for a local music group.  During the week she works hard as a retail manager.

Frann Katz-McCombs has lived in Naples for 19 years and has taught Kindergarten with Batina for the past 8 years.  Originally from Merrick, Long Island, New York, she attended the National Education Center where she received her certification as a Medical Assistant.  Frann works at Naples Community Hospital where she has served as the Assistant Director of Patient Accounts for 16 years.  She is very proud of her son, Layne, a junior and varsity football player for Naples High School.

Wallie Lenchner teaches 1st grade with Wendy Fisher. She has lived in Naples and has been a Temple member for 17 years.  Wallie and husband, Gary, have a son Alexander, who recently became a Bar Mitzvah last month and a daughter, Sydnie, in the 2nd grade.  Wallie is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and attended Clarion State College where she received her degree in Educational Psychology.  In addition, she also teaches in our Preschool and serves on the Board of the Jewish Federation.

Reneé Bialek has taught 6th grade Hebrew for the past 7 years.  She has also worked as the Religious School Office Assistant and in Temple Shalom’s preschool as a teacher’s assistant.  Reneé graduated from SUNY Albany with a degree in Psychology.  Since moving to Naples from Miami in 1999, she and her husband, Josh, have become the very proud parents of their four and a half year old son, Jared.
