Transportation Sub-Committee
| GOAL Create a complete roadway network that is aesthetically pleasing. Minimize congestion through use of best available technology. Promote elimination of vehicles from the roadway through mixed land use planning and alternative transportation systems OVERVIEW: The Transportation Sub-Committee, understanding the critical role that roads play in livability and in development, created an amended road plan which incorporates citizen input - for example, eliminating flyovers throughout the County. It also has supported efforts to identify if demand for mass transit is adequate to invest in its implementation. ACHIEVEMENTS: - Developed build-out Roadway Master Plan reflecting community desires, e.g., eliminating flyovers, amending number of lanes and identifying missing roadway links (see map opposite) - Identified roadway specifications, including sidewalks, bikeways, landscaping and lighting - Supported creation of Transit Development Plan by Metropolitan Planning Organization - feasibility study on capacity, routes, vehicles, privatization, costs and benefits will be complete next year RECOMMENDATIONS TO GOVERNMENT: - Incorporate roadway input into County Master Plan - Adopt roadway specifications into County Right of Way Manual - Establish dedicated funding sources for landscape efforts - Institute transportation public awareness program |
