| Education Task Force |
| GOAL A school system that sets high measurable standards; provides academic excellence; expands the teaching of the arts and the scope of its educational activities; aids in the development of the student's character; and is one in which parents, teachers, students and the community are greatly involved OVERVIEWTrue change in education requires two important elements - collaboration among all elements of the community, and re-evaluation of even the most basic elements of how people learn. The County-wide "Break the Mold" process, assisted in great part through the initiatives and participation of the FoCuS Education Task Force and the Collier County Public Schools, has capitalized on these two factors to commence systemic change to the Collier County Public Schools. ACHIEVEMENTS- Joined forces with WorldClass Collier and Collier County Public Schools to secure $100,000 "Break the Mold" grant from the Florida Department of Education - Enhanced participating group to form "Community of Learners" - Identified expectations, as outlined in summaries next page - Developed curriculum alignment procedures - Designed assessment improvements, now adopted by School Board; will oversee implementation - Integrated "Community of Learners" process into CCPS, student programs RECOMMENDATIONS TO CCPS AND COMMUNITY- Implement first curriculum and assessment changes in fall, 1998 - Continue work of "Break the Mold" through "The Learning Alliance," Collier's Strategic Partnership for Excellence through Learning - Develop task force action plans for programs: Birth to Five, Foreign Language, Integrating the Arts, Professional Development Center, Literacy, Gifted Education, Closing the Gap, and School-to-Career |
