"We the people of Collier
County, acknowledging the inherent value of our community’s assets, agree to maintain
its character, by protecting its environment - We will identify the qualities which have built our community's value, and use this knowledge to create a plan and program which will preserve our community's essence - Our masterplan and programs will recognize that environmental, economic and quality of life components are equally critical to its success - We will create a means of solving problems through community consensus This compact was signed by all task force members OVERVIEWAs it set out to define what gives our community its value, this Task Force found surprising consensus among its diverse membership. Among the most important principles it identified was the notion that preserving our quality of life means assuring both environmental responsibility and economic diversity. Overall, the committee came to understand that we should feel part of a true community, where respect for human and natural resources alike are the norm. Sub-Committees in key areas - Urban Design, Greenspace, Water Resources, Economic Diversity, and Transportation - were developed to undertake specific program elements, while the overall Task Force saw to integration of the elements. |
